Supporting the Next Generation of Interior Designers

The IIDA Hawaiʻi Pacific Chapter is committed to supporting students in the Interior Design program at Chaminade and throughout their academic journey.

We believe education extends beyond the classroom. Our goal is to help students bridge the gap between academic studies and professional practice — offering guidance, resources, and meaningful connections within the industry.

Building Community: Friendsgiving

Each year, IIDA partners with other local industry chapters to host Friendsgiving for the Interiors program at Chaminade.

This light, fun, and casual gathering provides an opportunity for students to:

  • Connect with local industry professionals
  • Learn about design organizations and available resources
  • Build relationships in a welcoming, approachable setting

For many students, Friendsgiving is their first introduction to the professional design community — and the beginning of lasting connections.

Student-Focused Events

In addition to Friendsgiving, IIDA hosts a variety of student-centered events throughout the year. These events may vary in format, venue, and focus, but all are designed to support professional growth and real-world readiness.

Recent initiatives have included a two-part student series focused on career preparation:

  • Skills for Success: Industry professionals shared practical insights on topics such as email etiquette, resume formatting, and professional communication.
  • Portfolio & Professional Prep: An interactive event featuring portfolio reviews, resume feedback, professional headshots, and networking opportunities.

Future student events will continue to evolve — offering new ways to connect, learn, and engage with the industry.

A Resource for Students

Above all, IIDA is dedicated to being a reliable resource for students pursuing a career in interior design.

We strive to:

  • Provide access to industry insights and professional guidance
  • Create opportunities for mentorship and connection
  • Help students translate their academic studies into professional practice
